On this link we have outlined some of the things we learnt during the production of our preliminary work, which was mainly to do with production, camera angles etc.
We want to do the final piece in somewhere that looks like a basement/warehouse as this is more atmospheric.
We will also need a piece of music with an upbeat tempo to make it seem fast paced

Crime Thriller
This sub genre is a mix of crime films and thrillers that that tells of a successful or failed crime or crimes. Mostly these films focus on the criminals rather than a policeman. Crime thrillers usually use action over psychological aspects. Central topics of crime thrillers include serial killers/murders, robberies, chases, shootouts, heists and double-crosses.

Final Cut Express 'Sound and Music'
After using Final Cut to edit the visual element to oure preliminary task, i found that I wasn't sure how to put a backing track into, or use sound effectively in Final Cut Express, so I looked on YouTube for a tutorial and found this video:
After watching this, I am more confident with using Final Cut, and I am not afraid to use it to its fullest potential, and use it effectively

Evaluation of our preliminary task
Our preliminary task consists of a character walking up to an electronic door, pressing the button to open it, walking through it up to an elevator, getting in it, traveling to the top, getting out of the elevator, walking down a corridor, turning left through a door and then walking up to another character sitting at a table, and sharing dialogue. I believe that our preliminary task was a success in the way that, as our first piece of filming it turned out better than expected. Also in the way that I learnt that the dialogue needs to be louds, and somewhat more interesting. I also learned that continuity is an extremely important part of filmmaking, and it is particularly important to make sure all the shots match up.
Thoughts on sound for a thriller film
Sound
The use of sound in a thriller film normally tends to explain the scene as well as builds up suspense into the scene. This could make the scene more stressful, dramatic, romantic, angry and sad. The use of sound should be used to engage the audience and to tease the audience and make them guess what may or may not be coming next.
However I have thought that it may be possible to use the backing track from "Love story" which is by Henry Mancini. This would be in contrast to a thriller film. As many people would know this song from the 1970's romantic film "Love story" "considered one of the most considered one of the most romantic of all time by the American Film Institute (#9 on the list). This in turn would contrast to the feel of a thriller film which would make the audience think about the music as well as begin to think about what may be coming next. This is because the contrast would be so extreme that the audience will begin to think that the film is nothing like a love story. This could also create an emotional and dramatic element to the scene.

I have thought about many films that have used slow motion for effect. I believe this technique is used as it is able to recapture a specific moment in a film, to create suspense, romance or stress onto a specific moment. This technique could also be used in a bullet dodge scene as the Matrix used this very well, this would be used as technology was a 100% result in our questionnaire. Or a bullet chase scene, where we try to follow a bullet to its target.
I have looked once again at youtube to learn about final cut express and how to apply this technique.
