CEMS for Seven

*Analysis of ‘Seven’*

*Mise en Scene:*

The film starts with a view of the main character (Morgan Freeman) it
shows him in his kitchen, in his costume, which is an un-tucked shirt
and trousers, the lighting is very dark which shows he lives in a dark
and dangerous area. We next see him at a mirror doing up his tie, which
shows he’s getting ready for work, this then jumps to him picking his
detectives badge, and a knife, which also shows he lives in a dangerous
area.

The scene then jumps to an apartment with Morgan Freeman looking at a
dead body, with blood all over the floor, the lighting is still
extremely dark, which helps enforce the feeling of danger. Then another
main character comes in (Brad Pitt) wearing a cheap suit which shows he
is not rich. The scene then goes to Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt walking
down a street outside the apartment building; even outside the lighting
is still very dark and dismal.

It then jumps to Morgan Freeman’s character in bed, this is again dark,
and he turns on a metronome, which helps show his character.

In the opening credits, there are a lot of props used, such as a biro
pen writing on a paper, photography equipment, film reels, and a sowing
needle sowing together the paper he’s written on, there is also a razor
blade that he uses to cut out his finger prints.
