There are two main types of editing, video editing and sound editing.

Below are most of the terms referring to video editing.

Video Editing

Compressors and Codec’s - Software used to decompress and compress digital video. Compression is used to decrease the size of the file.

Editing - Editing is part of post-production and is the process of rearranging, adding and/or removing video clips. This also can create transitions between clips.

Transition - This is the way one shot changes to the next.

Non Linear Editing - A method of editing which uses computer software to edit footage

Layering - This is adding multiple layers of superimposed video

Linear Editing - Linear Editing can also be referred to as 'Tape to Tape' editing. It is a method of editing in which footage is copied from one tape to another in a certain order.

Post Production - Post Production is everything that happens to the audio and video after production, for example, after the footage has been shot. Post production includes video editing, audio editing, colour correction, titling, and effects.
