Costume - A costume says a huge amount about a character, for example; a person in some cheap, weathered and torn clothes, they would most likely be from a very poor background and would have little money to spend on basic items. Whereas, a person walking down the street in a smart suit and a brief case would probably going to or from a high class job and has quite a comfortable bank balance.
Set Design - This is the setting of a scene and the objects (props) that are involved. Set Design is an important element of "putting the scene" and can be used to increase the dominant of mood or characters emotion in a film, or even to establish aspects of the character.
Space - Depending on how space is represented, it affects the reading of a film. Proximity, depth, proximity and size of the objects and places in a film can be manipulated through camera placement and lenses, set design, lighting, determining relationships or mood between aspects in the film.
Lighting - The quality, direction and intensity of lighting have a huge effect on the way in which an image is interpreted. Light and shade can emphasise and change shape, texture, distance, mood, season, time of day or night and other aspects of a film. It also affects the way in which colours are rendered in terms of depth and tone and can focus the audience’s attention on particular elements.
Acting - Acting has a large variation in performance of style in the cinema, both cultural and historical.
